Mike Foote brings extensive governmental and litigation experience to his private practice, which includes litigation, internal investigations, criminal and juvenile matters, and election law.
He spent sixteen years prosecuting virtually every type of offense from drunk driving to murder. At various times, he specialized in juvenile law, violent felonies, grand jury investigations, and complex economic crimes including those under the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act. He completed over seventy-five jury trials and hundreds of trials and motions hearings to the court. He was known for building difficult cases from the ground level and presenting them to a jury or judge in well-prepared and persuasive manner.
Mike has also served as a state legislator since 2012. During that time, he has gained particular insight into campaign finance, policy formulation, and election law. He has crafted creative solutions to a wide variety of issues including successful ballot measures.
Mike received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University, a Master’s Degree in Global Studies from the University of Denver, and his law degree from the University of Colorado. He is a principal attorney at Smith Byers LLC, a firm that focuses on civil litigation, white collar defense, intellectual property, and dispute resolution. He is also a member of the Colorado Bar Association’s Board of Governors.
